MPI Consultants supported Eneco Windmolens Offshore with engineering services for planned main-component replacement campaigns on the wind turbines at Prinses Amaliawindpark (120 MW) offshore the Netherlands. The work formed part of a wider contract awarded to MPI Contractors for offshore transport and lifting services during the replacement programme and was structured to cover repeat campaigns over a multi-year period. MPI Consultants’ scope included the initial design and specification of sea fastenings and grillages required to safely transport and handle large wind turbine components offshore. This engineering package also covered associated project management activities to ensure that the handling arrangements were suitable for the selected installation vessel and compatible with planned lifting operations during the campaigns. The overall programme was intended to enable the exchange of major wind turbine components, with examples including gearboxes, generators, transformers, blades and/or blade bearings. The contract was scheduled to commence on 1 January for an initial five-year term, with options to extend for a further three and two years, and anticipated mobilisation of a wind turbine installation vessel for up to two planned campaigns per year. The contract was reported as having been awarded through a European tender procedure based on price and quality.
