On 14 June 2019, at the launch of the Saint-Nazaire offshore wind project, France’s minister for ecological transition François de Rugy announced that a new offshore wind tender would be launched off the island of Oléron, with a capacity between 500 MW and 1,000 MW, formally identifying the Oléron area as a future offshore wind development zone.
