Alpha Offshore Service A/S was awarded a blade repair contract by NoordzeeWind for the Offshore Windpark Egmond aan Zee (OWEZ) offshore wind farm in the Dutch North Sea. The award was reported on 9 July 2018 and related to offshore turbine blade repair works on the Vestas V90 turbine fleet installed at OWEZ, which consists of 36 turbines rated at 3 MW each. Under the contract, Alpha Offshore was to provide experienced personnel with specialist knowledge of the Vestas V90 turbines to undertake independent blade repairs across approximately 80 blades. The scope described included a range of potential repair types depending on blade condition and inspection findings, including tip replacement, laminate repairs, lightning damage repairs and upgrades such as leading-edge protection system improvements. Alpha Offshore also supplied the materials required for the repair campaign. The work methodology referenced the use of rope access and sky climber techniques to enable safe and efficient access to blades offshore. In addition to executing repairs, Alpha Offshore’s scope included project management activities, preparation of risk assessments and method statements, and completion of reporting for the campaign.
