In February 2026, the Hellenic Armed Forces rejected the originally proposed cable landing location on Lesvos for IPTO's North Aegean Interconnection programme, citing the site's proximity to a military firing range. The rejection forced a redesign of the landing point and triggered a requirement for a revised Environmental Impact Assessment for the programme. Although Phase A (Thrace-Limnos) does not itself land on Lesvos, the rejection is the proximate driver of the programme-wide slip from a 2029 to 2030 commissioning target captured in the revised ADMIE Ten-Year Network Development Plan which entered supplementary public consultation on 18 February 2026. The same TYNDP revision raised the North Aegean programme budget from EUR 1.246 billion to EUR 1.425 billion, citing site-related obstacles and rising cable costs.
