On 22 August 2024 at 05:05 CET, the NordLink HVDC interconnector between Norway and Germany went out of operation due to an unknown failure, prompting Norwegian TSO Statnett to cut the cable's available transfer capacity from 1,400 MW to zero. Statnett spokeswoman Marianne Veggeberg confirmed the outage and said the TSO was working to locate and fix the error. The unplanned loss of NordLink's full 1.4 GW import/export capability removed a major Nordic-to-Continental balancing route between Norway's bidding zone NO2 and Germany's DE-LU price area while diagnosis and repair were under way, with no restoration timetable disclosed in the initial announcement.
