Capacity Upgrade

On 22 April 2026 Nemo Link extended its dynamic overload facility from a single-direction service (20MW Belgium→GB available since December 2019) to a fully bidirectional capability. The interconnector's Maximum Physical Transfer Capacity (MPTC) at the mid-channel reference point is now 1032MW for a maximum period of 5 hours per day in either GB→BE or BE→GB direction, an effective +32MW uplift above the baseline 1000MW rated capacity. The upgrade was announced by Nemo Link on 20 April 2026 and reflects performance optimisation of the existing HVDC PLUS converter stations at Richborough and Herdersbrug without physical hardware modification. Market participants can now nominate against the higher overload capacity in both flow directions, increasing trading flexibility and providing additional cross-border balancing headroom during peak hours.
