In April 2024, the Dutch authority Directoraat-generaal Natuur en Visserij issued a Wet natuurbescherming (nature protection) permit for Net op zee Nederwiek 2, authorising the offshore platform, HVDC cable route from the Nederwiek wind energy area past the Bruine Bank to the Maasvlakte landfall, and associated onshore works, thereby clearing key ecological constraints for the grid connection serving Nederwiek II.
