CIBM (Consorzio per il Centro Interuniversitario di Biologia Marina ed Ecologia Applicata "G. Bacci" di Livorno) is a partner in the Next Geosolutions-led Temporary Consortium (RTC) awarded by Terna on 10 April 2026 for preliminary marine survey and environmental characterisation services on the Milano–Montalto HVDC submarine cable corridor. CIBM is an inter-university marine biology and applied ecology centre based in Livorno; its contribution focuses on the environmental characterisation strand, providing expertise on the distribution and condition of phyto- and zoobenthic communities along the approximately 280 km submarine route between Montalto di Castro (Viterbo) and Avenza (Massa-Carrara), spanning both nearshore and offshore sections of the corridor. The total RTC contract value exceeds €28 million; CIBM's individual share is not disclosed in the award notice and falls within the partner stakes complementing NextGeo's ~84% lead share. The award follows the open European procurement procedure launched by Terna on 28 May 2025 (GUCE notice S 102/2025 – 345476), in which the NextGeo-led consortium ranked first overall on combined technical-economic scoring. The environmental baseline data CIBM contributes will support Terna's authorisation filing to MASE under DL 239/2003 and the eventual EIA process. Field operations are scheduled to commence in the second half of 2026.
