Aventa Italia Srl was awarded, in joint venture with Rina Consulting SpA, the Owner's Engineer activities contract (CT3032/2024) for the subsea interconnector cable link between Malta and Italy (Malta Sicily Cable Link 2 / IC2). The JV provides technical supervision, design review, construction monitoring and quality assurance services to InterConnect Malta across the project's design and execution phases, covering both the offshore (99 km subsea cable) and onshore (≈23 km Sicily + Malta cable plus terminal stations at Magħtab and Ragusa) work packages. The Owner's Engineer scope spans surveillance of Nexans's subsea-cable manufacture in Charleston (USA) and Rognan (Norway), SELT's onshore-cable manufacture in Turkey and installation in Sicily and Malta, AG Installations / BEST's 245 kV autotransformer and shunt-reactor delivery, Terna Rete Italia's 220 kV switchgear, and PowerFix JV's 132 kV variable shunt-reactor works at Magħtab. The Owner's Engineer also coordinates Factory Acceptance Tests, witness testing, and interface management between contractors and the Maltese and Italian transmission grids. Aventa contributes Italian-side engineering, technical advisory and project-management capacity to the JV, complementing Rina's wider consulting footprint. The contract was awarded in June 2025 following a competitive tender (CT3032/2024) issued by InterConnect Malta in February 2025.
