In April 2026, civil works commenced at the Delimara Power Station in Marsaxlokk, Malta in preparation for the installation of a new cable turntable for the storage of spare submarine cable associated with the Malta–Sicily Cable Link 2 (IC2). The turntable provides on-island secure storage for spare 220 kV three-core HVAC cable, enabling rapid response to future cable repairs or replacement campaigns over the operational life of the IC2 link without requiring the spare cable to be shipped in from manufacturer stocks. Co-locating the turntable at the Delimara complex — Malta's principal thermal generation site — gives the cable easy port access for vessel loading during any repair operation and consolidates IC2's spares infrastructure with Enemalta's main electricity-system operations footprint. The works form part of the broader IC2 execution programme overseen by InterConnect Malta, alongside the Magħtab Terminal Station build-out and the Ragusa Terminal Station hybrid-switchgear installation. This is the first dedicated IC2 spare-cable storage civil works package to commence and complements the wider 220 kV onshore infrastructure being constructed at Magħtab. Detailed scope, contractor and completion date are not specified in the InterConnect Malta project timeline.
