Projected commercial operations date for the second Mallorca-Menorca submarine electrical interconnection. Per Red Eléctrica presentation at the Consell Insular de Menorca on 27 February 2026, attended by Redeia president Beatriz Corredor and Spanish Secretary of State for Energy Joan Groizard, the new 82 km / 132 kV AC link between substations Sant Martí (Alcúdia, Mallorca) and Lithica (Ciutadella, Menorca) is targeted to enter operation in 2030, with an investment of €220 million. The cable comprises 64.5 km subsea (max depth 146 m) plus 13.7 km onshore Mallorca and 3.8 km onshore Menorca (entering at Punta de Son Oleo, south of the Ciutadella outer port). Project purpose: drastically reduce thermal generation at the Maó power plant, increase renewable penetration on Menorca, and improve security of supply. Year-precision projection — supersede when REE publishes a quantified construction/commissioning schedule.
