On 8 May 2026 the Swedish government (Klimat- och näringslivsdepartementet) issued formal assignment Dnr KN2026/01027 directing Svenska kraftnät to revise its 2027–2029 investment plan to exclude Konti-Skan Connect together with Aurora Line 2 and Fenno-Skan 3. Energy and Business Minister Ebba Busch announced the decision at a press conference the same day, framing it as a response to the European Commission's ongoing 'nätpaket' (electricity grid package) negotiations, which the Swedish government argues continue to over-restrict member-state use of congestion-rent (flaskhalsinkomster) revenues and centralise system planning at EU level. Busch stated that Sweden was 'pausing planning for new cables for electricity export' until the package's direction changes. Svenska kraftnät must submit the revised investment plan to the ministry by 31 July 2026. The pause does not revoke the EU Project of Common Interest (PCI) designation that Konti-Skan Connect already holds, nor cancel the bilateral arrangement with Energinet; however, until the revised plan is approved no further Swedish-side investment commitments will be made on the renewal of the Lindome–Vester Hassing HVDC link.
