Kontek 3 — nominated in ENTSO-E's TYNDP 2016 Baltic Sea Regional Investment Plan (2015) as the third 600 MW HVDC subsea interconnector between Denmark-East (DK2) and Germany, with promoters Energinet and 50Hertz — has not been included in any subsequent TYNDP cycle (2018, 2020, 2022, 2024) and has not surfaced in any 50Hertz or Energinet project material under that name in the decade since. The DKE-DE corridor between the same two TSOs is being delivered instead as the Bornholm Energy Island (BEI) hybrid offshore interconnector, a 3 GW multi-terminal HVDC link connecting offshore wind farms via a hub on the Danish island of Bornholm to both national grids. BEI received a €645.2 million CEF Energy grant from the European Commission's CINEA on 4 September 2025, with NKT awarded the submarine and onshore cable contracts and Siemens Energy delivering the converter stations; an intergovernmental agreement between Denmark and Germany followed in January 2026. With the underlying DK2-DE corridor demonstrably advancing under BEI rather than as a standalone Kontek-3 link, Kontek 3 is treated as cancelled. Anchor date is the BEI CEF grant signing, the milestone at which BEI moved from candidate to funded delivery.
