172 km of 66 kV XLPE-insulated inter-array cables and accessories for Hollandse Kust Zuid 3 & 4; Prysmian to design, test and deliver.
Prysmian was awarded a contract by Vattenfall to deliver the 66 kV inter-array cable system for the Hollandse Kust Zuid (HKZ) 3 & 4 offshore wind farm sites in the Netherlands. Prysmian’s scope covered the engineering and supply of undersea infield cables and the related accessories required to connect wind turbines into the offshore electrical collection network that feeds the project’s offshore high-voltage stations. The contracted supply was described as 172 km of 66 kV XLPE-insulated inter-array cables together with the associated accessories. Prysmian also stated that it would design, test and deliver the cable systems as part of the package. Manufacturing was planned at Prysmian’s Nordenham facility in Germany, which was referenced as an excellence centre for submarine cable production, with delivery planned for 2022. The inter-array cable system forms a critical balance-of-plant element for HKZ, enabling power export from individual turbines to the offshore high-voltage stations for further transformation and onward transmission. The contract supported the project’s construction phase and followed Vattenfall’s permitting success for the non-subsidised HKZ wind farm build-out across the four sites.
