Bibby HydroMap was awarded a contract by Vattenfall to perform large-scale unexploded ordnance (UXO) survey activities for the Hollandse Kust Zuid (HKZ) 1 & 2 offshore wind farm site. The work supported early development and construction readiness by identifying and characterising potential UXO hazards within the project area, enabling risk mitigation measures to be planned before foundation and cable installation campaigns. The project was executed using a multi-vessel approach. Bibby HydroMap deployed its own survey vessels (including Bibby Tethra and Bibby Athena, as referenced in the project update) and supplemented its fleet capacity by chartering the survey vessel SeaZip Fix from Seazip Offshore Service. SeaZip Fix was used to perform seismic survey operations at the HKZ 1 & 2 site, and the vessel’s stated capabilities included geophysical survey and UXO detection survey operations, as well as related seabed data acquisition relevant to offshore wind site investigation. Through this engagement, Bibby HydroMap provided Vattenfall with survey data and UXO-focused deliverables required for safe offshore construction planning, helping to reduce schedule and safety risks associated with legacy munitions in the North Sea project area.
