Waardenburg Ecology was named by Ecowende as a project partner responsible for biodiversity monitoring and for supporting development of Ecowende’s extensive offshore ecological programme at Hollandse Kust (west) Site VI. The role related to the project’s “most ecological wind farm yet” ambition and included monitoring activities intended to establish baseline conditions, assess impacts during construction and operations, and generate evidence to inform mitigation and nature-enhancement measures. Ecowende indicated that Waardenburg Ecology would monitor biodiversity at the wind farm and that Waardenburg worked with Ecowende on research initiatives focused on birds and other sensitive receptors relevant to offshore wind development. The project communications also referenced the use of GPS tagging and behavioural mapping work on seabirds to better understand movement patterns and collision risk around offshore wind farms, supporting Ecowende’s commitment to ecological innovation and adaptive management. The partnership was positioned as part of a broader monitoring and research programme “above and below the water”, aligned with the tender requirements for ecological integration in the Dutch North Sea. Waardenburg Ecology’s involvement supported the project’s nature-inclusive layout approach (including measures such as a bird corridor) and the ongoing evaluation of ecological measures implemented at site.
