Robin Radar Systems partnered with Ecowende to support the nature-inclusive development and operation of Hollandse Kust (west) site VI (Ecowende) in the Dutch North Sea. The engagement formed part of Ecowende’s programme to implement an advanced framework for monitoring birds and bats at the wind farm, reflecting the project’s ecology-led permit commitments and ambition to set a new ecological benchmark. Robin Radar Systems’ scope related to wildlife detection and monitoring solutions intended to improve understanding of bird and bat presence and behaviour in and around the turbine array. This type of monitoring underpins both operational mitigation measures (e.g., informed curtailment strategies or deterrence approaches where applicable) and the broader ecological research programme designed to reduce impacts on vulnerable species. The role sat alongside other specialised partners providing complementary monitoring systems and data services. The outputs from these monitoring systems were expected to be used by Ecowende and its wider research partners to evaluate ecological effects during construction and operations and to generate evidence that could be applied to future offshore wind developments in the Netherlands and beyond.
