NIOZ was identified in Ecowende’s project communications as a partner working with Waardenburg on seabed monitoring activities for Hollandse Kust (west) Site VI. The referenced work related to ecological monitoring of benthic and seabed conditions in and around the wind farm area, supporting the project’s nature-inclusive objectives and providing evidence to evaluate changes over time. The monitoring scope, as presented, was part of Ecowende’s wider ecological research and monitoring programme designed to better understand offshore wind interactions with the marine environment. By contributing scientific expertise and monitoring capability, NIOZ supported the collection of baseline and follow-up data needed to assess habitat conditions and ecological responses to offshore construction and the presence of monopile-based turbine infrastructure. This type of seabed-focused monitoring is typically used to document sediment and habitat characteristics, to track the development of biodiversity around structures and nature-enhancing measures, and to strengthen the quality of long-term environmental datasets. In the context of Ecowende, the work also aligned with the project’s stated aim to deliver a net-positive impact on nature and to share learnings that could be applied to future offshore wind projects in the Dutch North Sea. No contract value, award date, or quantitative survey deliverables were stated in the cited project information.
