MIDO partnered with Ecowende on Hollandse Kust (west) site VI (Ecowende), the 760 MW offshore wind farm located around 53 kilometres off the Dutch coast near IJmuiden. MIDO was identified by Ecowende as one of the specialist companies joining forces to implement an advanced monitoring framework focused on birds and bats, supporting the project’s ecology-driven design and operating philosophy. MIDO’s involvement related to monitoring systems and associated data capture to detect and observe wildlife activity at and around the offshore wind farm. This monitoring work was intended to strengthen the project’s ability to quantify ecological impacts, validate mitigation measures, and support adaptive management during the operational phase. Such monitoring also enables the project to generate robust datasets for research into species interactions with offshore wind farms. The engagement was part of a broader set of partnerships used by Ecowende to deliver a comprehensive ecological programme across construction and operations. MIDO’s monitoring inputs were positioned to complement other detection and data partners, helping Ecowende build an integrated evidence base on wildlife presence and behaviour that could inform future nature-inclusive offshore wind standards.
