DHI partnered with Ecowende to support the implementation of an advanced monitoring framework for birds and bats at Hollandse Kust (west) site VI (Ecowende). The engagement aligned with Ecowende’s ecology-led approach, which included measures and research intended to minimise impacts on birds and bats while improving the evidence base for future offshore wind development. As part of the collaboration, DHI contributed to monitoring and data-collection activities focused on wildlife behaviour, including field efforts used to improve and train monitoring approaches. Ecowende indicated that DHI biologists collected night-time field data on the movements of bats and birds for use in training monitoring tools, supporting the project’s ambition to deploy and refine detection and deterrence capabilities. DHI’s role operated within a wider ecosystem of specialist partners involved in ecological monitoring, research, and data management for the wind farm. The monitoring outputs were intended to help Ecowende assess wildlife activity in the project area, evaluate the effectiveness of mitigation measures, and support transparent reporting and knowledge sharing. This work supported the project’s broader aim of demonstrating practical, scalable methods for integrating biodiversity considerations into offshore wind construction and operations.
