On 15 December 2025, IPTO (ADMIE) and Terna jointly launched the first major procurement tender for the GRITA 2 Italy–Greece HVDC interconnection, covering preliminary seabed surveys to determine the optimal subsea cable route and ensure technical reliability of the submarine installation works. The tender — with a budget of €20.79 million awarded under the most-economically-advantageous-tender criterion (price plus technical merit) — covers collection, analysis and evaluation of geological, geotechnical and morphological seabed data along the approximately 240 km subsea route between Thesprotia (Greece) and Melendugno (Italy). The contract delivery window is set at 24 months from the date of contract signing. This is the first tender carried out under the joint procurement framework established by the May 2025 IPTO–Terna Memorandum of Understanding, and it precedes future major tenders for converter station construction and HVDC power cable procurement, which the two TSOs have indicated will follow once technical specifications and commercial requirements have been finalised. ADMIE and Terna have also separately assigned the studies required for environmental permitting.</description> </invoke>
