K&K Group, a UAE-based energy conglomerate chaired by Dr Tajeddine Seif and operating with partner Ts Investment, is the lead initiator and sponsor of the Green Vein Egypt-Italy HVDC interconnection. K&K Group unveiled the project at COP28 in Dubai in December 2023 alongside CESI, Prysmian Group and Siemens Energy, with all four parties signing a Memorandum of Understanding to advance the scheme into a comprehensive detailed-feasibility phase. On Wednesday 15 October 2025, K&K Group formalised its development role by signing a cooperation agreement with the Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company (EETC) in Cairo to conduct the final technical, environmental and financial assessments for the project, paving the way for implementation. The signing was witnessed by Egyptian Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly, with Electricity Minister Mahmoud Esmat also present; EETC Chairperson Mona Rizk and K&K Chairman Tajeddine Seif signed for the parties. The contracted scope covers the three workstreams typically required to take a 3 GW, ~2,800 km submarine HVDC corridor from feasibility to bankability: detailed technical engineering for the long-distance subsea cable and the onshore converter substations at West Sohag (Egypt) and Dolo (Italy); environmental assessments along the deep-water Mediterranean route; and financial structuring including cost allocation between the Egyptian and Italian sides.
