VALOREM was responsible for handling the wind turbine component package for the France Atlantique 5 MW floating wind demonstrator while it was being prepared at the Port of Brest. Fondation OPEN-C reported that, once the steel floater and pyramidal superstructure were assembled at the Marine Renewable Energy terminal in Brest, the floating structure would be equipped with the wind turbine components within VALOREM's scope. For this single-unit demonstrator, the main turbine elements (turbine, nacelle, hub and blades) had arrived in Brest, and the project used a second-hand 5 MW turbine developed by Darwind B.V. VALOREM mechanically and electrically retrofitted this turbine for deployment on the demonstrator, with support from Eolink's teams. Following this retrofit and preparation work, the turbine was planned to be installed onto the floating structure as part of the overall demonstrator build-up prior to launch and towing to the SEM-REV test site. This role is associated with the construction phase of the project and relates specifically to preparing and installing the wind turbine package on the France Atlantique floating platform prior to offshore deployment and grid connection through the SEM-REV test-site infrastructure.
