Lloyds' Register provided third-party technical assurance for the Floatgen floating offshore wind demonstrator by partially certifying the design of the project’s floating foundation in 2015. This work related to the innovative floating concept developed for Floatgen’s single 2 MW turbine installation at the Centrale Nantes SEM-REV offshore test site, supporting the project’s design and engineering phase (2013–2015) ahead of construction and deployment. The partial certification covered the floating foundation design (a square-ring concrete barge-type floater incorporating Ideol’s Damping Pool system), helping to demonstrate that key aspects of the concept met applicable technical requirements and verification expectations for offshore prototype deployment. As an independent certifying body, Lloyds' Register’s involvement provided an external review and certification milestone intended to de-risk the demonstrator prior to subsequent build activities in Saint-Nazaire (2016–2017) and offshore installation at SEM-REV (April 2018). The SEM-REV project timeline explicitly records this certification step as a 2015 deliverable for Floatgen, positioning Lloyds' Register in a technical advisory and certification capacity rather than as a contractor for fabrication, installation, or operations.
