In December 2017, the UK Marine Management Organisation (MMO) granted FAB Link Limited the marine licence required for the offshore section of the FAB Link HVDC cable route within English territorial waters. The MMO marine licence covers the works to install and protect the subsea HVDC cables and the associated fibre-optic cable across the English seabed, including burial in seabed where practicable and rock placement, mattressing or other hard armouring where burial is not feasible. The application had originally been submitted in December 2016 alongside the converter-station planning application. Together with the subsequent Alderney FEPA Licence (granted July 2018) and the East Devon planning consents, the MMO marine licence completes the principal GB and Crown-Dependency consent stack for the offshore cable route.
