onshore section of this cable, which is more than 8 kilometres long, will run from the beach of the city of Noordwijk to a transformer substation held by grid operator TenneT in the municipality of Sassenheim
Visser & Smit Hanab carried out drilling works for the onshore section of the electricity export cable for the Eneco Luchterduinen offshore wind farm. The scope related to the civil installation method selected for the land cable route from the Noordwijk beach landfall to TenneT’s transformer substation in the municipality of Sassenheim, where the wind farm’s electricity would be fed into the national grid. Eneco stated that the onshore cable section was more than 8 km long and would be installed underground, with a large proportion (around 80%) installed at a depth of 20–25 metres using directional drilling. Visser & Smit Hanab’s work supported this trenchless installation approach; the press release notes the first official drilling took place in Voorhout (municipality of Teylingen) and involved directional drilling over 596 metres. The onshore cable construction was scheduled to be executed in stages from early October 2013 to December 2014, with directional drilling and installation of flexible pipelines preceding the cable pull-in/laying activities. Eneco identified Joulz (part of the Eneco Group) as the main contractor for the onshore cable development, with Visser & Smit Hanab responsible for drilling associated with that development.
