Onshore section of the 150 kV export cable, more than 8 km long, from Noordwijk beach to TenneT substation in Sassenheim
Joulz, an infrastructure company within the Eneco Group, was the main contractor for development and construction works for the onshore section of the electricity export cable for Eneco Luchterduinen Wind Farm. The project connected the offshore wind farm to the Dutch national grid via an underground onshore cable route running from the beach at Noordwijk to a TenneT transformer substation in the municipality of Sassenheim, where the power would be fed into the grid. According to Eneco’s announcement, the onshore cable section was more than 8 kilometres long and was to be installed entirely underground. The works included a major directional drilling programme, with around 80% of the onshore cable installation planned at depths of 20–25 metres, while a smaller portion would be installed by open excavation in trenches at approximately 1.2–1.8 metres. Construction on the onshore section was planned to proceed in stages between early October 2013 and December 2014, including directional drilling and installation of flexible pipelines ahead of cable pulling and laying. This role related specifically to the onshore export cable installation scope supporting the project’s grid connection from landfall to the onshore substation.
