SSEN Transmission commenced a programme of cultural heritage walkover surveys along the proposed Eastern Green Link 5 onshore cable route options on 25 February 2026. The surveys ran from 25 to 27 February 2026, subject to land access and weather conditions, and were carried out by two experienced cultural heritage surveyors from specialist environmental and engineering consultant WSP. Surveyors walked areas within and around the proposed onshore cable route corridor in Aberdeenshire to identify archaeological or historic features that need to be considered as part of the environmental assessment and onshore route refinement. The information gathered will inform the final routing of the onshore cable and ensure that cultural heritage assets are appropriately protected as the project progresses through Stage 1 pre-application development toward Stage 2 statutory consultation in 2026.
