Construction of the three buildings forming the Ar Merzher converter station at La Martyre in Finistère, Brittany, was completed by end-2024. The station is built immediately adjacent to RTE's existing 400 kV La Martyre substation, into which the Celtic Interconnector's HVDC link will tie via its step-up transformers. Civil engineering was delivered by NGE, working in partnership with Siemens Energy as the converter station EPC contractor. The completion of the three converter buildings (totalling roughly 5,000 m² and supported by 4,300 m³ of concrete and 120 foundations) closed out the structural/civil works phase and enabled subsequent electrical equipment installation campaigns. Site fit-out and equipment assembly proceeded through 2025 and into 2026, including the arrival of the first two of four large power transformers in May 2025 and the remaining two in early June 2025, ahead of energisation planned from June 2026 and full commissioning by 2028.
