MHI Vestas Offshore Wind signed a firm turbine supply order with the Two Towers Consortium for the Borssele V offshore wind innovation site in the Netherlands. Under this order, MHI Vestas was to supply two V164-9.5 MW offshore wind turbines for the 19 MW project located around 20 km off the coast of Zeeland within site III of the Borssele Wind Farm zone. The project was positioned as a test and demonstration site for a set of technical and environmental innovations, including the slip joint connection concept between monopile and transition piece (developed in collaboration with Van Oord) and nature-inclusive scour protection concepts. In addition to supplying the turbines, MHI Vestas also held a long-term service agreement for the project, stated as a 14.5-year service contract. This scope covered ongoing turbine operations and maintenance support following installation and commissioning, contributing to the long-term performance and availability of the two-turbine site. The contract was announced in December 2018, with the project scheduled for installation during 2020 and subsequent commissioning. The Borssele V award added to MHI Vestas’ installed base in Dutch waters and supported the company’s wider programme of technology validation and learning through collaboration with industry partners on full-scale commercial offshore wind deployments.
