Green Giraffe acted as the project manager for the Borssele V (Borssele innovation/test site) offshore wind project as part of the Two Towers consortium. The consortium, led by offshore contractor Van Oord alongside Investri Offshore, won the tender to develop the demonstration site in the Borssele wind energy zone off the Dutch coast. Within this consortium structure, Green Giraffe’s scope included project management responsibility and financing support for the project. The role supported delivery of a two-turbine pilot intended to demonstrate innovations, including deployment of a slip-joint clamp connection between the monopile and transition piece and application of an aluminium-based protective coating, as well as environmental measures such as establishing oyster beds and placing rocks around the foundations to limit seabed disturbance. Green Giraffe’s engagement was described in the context of the consortium’s overall plan and responsibilities, with Van Oord covering design and construction and Investri Offshore serving as project director. The appointment related to managing the project through development and construction planning towards operations targeted for 2021, under a subsidy framework intended to enable testing of the innovations and remunerate electricity supplied.
