The Two Towers consortium (Van Oord, Investri Offshore and Green Giraffe) installed both Vestas V164-9.5 MW turbines at Borssele Wind Farm Site V during 2020, completing the turbine erection phase on the two Sif-manufactured monopile foundations. Van Oord acted as Balance of Plant contractor and deployed its offshore installation vessel Aeolus, which also installed the world's first submerged Slip Joint connection between monopile and transition piece on 25 April 2020. The exact in-month installation date of each turbine was not disclosed in the consortium's public communications; the year-end precision reflects the year-level confirmation provided in offshore-energy.biz's September 2021 Borssele series retrospective, which states the two turbines were installed on top of the monopile foundations in 2020. Commissioning continued through the winter and the full 19 MW innovation site was declared fully commissioned on 25 February 2021, with renewable electricity supplied via Dutch energy company Vandebron under a dedicated offtake partnership.
