Fugro was awarded the geotechnical investigation contract for Borssele wind area Sites III and IV (Borssele 3 & 4), offshore the Zeeland coast in the Netherlands. The work was undertaken on behalf of the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO), part of the Ministry of Economic Affairs, and was described as the final investigation campaign for these sites ahead of the tender bidding rounds. The scope comprised offshore ground investigation to characterise the seabed and subsoil conditions relevant to wind farm development. Fugro was to execute boreholes with associated in situ testing programmes, together with seabed cone penetration testing (CPT). Fugro’s geoconsultancy engineers and geologists were to integrate the results into an interpreted geological ground model intended to provide objective, high-quality inputs for prospective developers preparing tender submissions. The programme also included advanced laboratory testing at Fugro’s specialised laboratory in Wallingford. This work supported early-stage site understanding and risk reduction for foundation concept selection and subsequent engineering, by improving confidence in soil stratigraphy and geotechnical parameters across the lease area.
