Siemens Gamesa was contracted by Ørsted to supply and service the wind turbines for the Borssele 1 & 2 offshore wind farm in the Netherlands. The project, owned by Ørsted, has a total installed capacity of 752 MW and is located around 22 km off the coast of the Dutch province of Zeeland, in water depths of roughly 14–38 metres. The agreement covered 94 offshore wind turbines in the 8 MW class for deployment across the combined Sites I and II development. The contract scope comprised turbine supply (manufacture and delivery of the wind turbine units) and a service package for the turbines, supporting operations and maintenance over the early operating period. The turbine contract represented a key procurement milestone within Ørsted’s overall delivery programme for bringing Borssele 1 & 2 online by the end of 2020, with Siemens Gamesa positioned as the OEM responsible for maintaining turbine performance and availability under the service arrangement. The turbines formed the primary generation assets within the wind farm array, enabling the project’s expected output to cover the annual electricity consumption of approximately one million Dutch households.
