HSM Offshore was awarded the contract to construct and install the Borssele Alpha and Borssele Beta offshore high-voltage substation (OHVS) platforms for Dutch offshore grid operator TenneT. Borssele Alpha is the offshore HVAC platform that connects the Borssele I & II offshore wind farms to the Dutch onshore transmission system, with the overall offshore grid connection forming part of TenneT’s two 700 MW Borssele connections. Under this award, HSM Offshore executed the platform build and offshore installation scope for both substations. The project schedule referenced installation of the Borssele Alpha foundation in the second half of 2018 and completion of the full OHVS platform in 2019, with Borssele Beta planned for 2020. The contract therefore covered offshore construction and installation activities required to deliver the grid-connection platforms that receive 66 kV wind farm output, step it up for transmission, and interface with the export cable system to shore. HSM Offshore also coordinated with specialist parties for supporting design work relevant to the platform foundation interface, including detailed scour protection design updates, to de-risk installation and long-term seabed stability around the substation foundations.
