GeoSea (part of DEME) was awarded contracts by Ørsted to support offshore installation works for the Borssele 1 & 2 offshore wind farm in the Netherlands. The engagement covered the transportation and installation campaign for the wind turbine foundation structures, with GeoSea taking responsibility for the full foundation installation scope for the project. As part of the foundation work, GeoSea was to transport and install 94 wind turbine foundation structures and deliver seabed-related scope through the supply, transport and installation of scour protection at each turbine location. The foundations were described as monopile foundations installed in water depths ranging from 16 to 36 metres, with pre-installed scour protection, an anode cage and a bolted transition piece. Under a separate contract, A2SEA (described as the turbine installation experts within GeoSea) was to provide installation vessel capacity to transport and install 94 Siemens Gamesa 8 MW turbines at Borssele 1 & 2. The article stated that monopile and turbine installation was scheduled for 2020 using vessels from the GeoSea fleet.
