Ørsted awarded EEW Special Pipe Constructions GmbH (EEW SPC) a foundation manufacturing contract for the Borssele 1+2 offshore wind farm in the Netherlands. The scope covered production of 47 monopile primary structures and 35 transition pieces for the project. The award was announced on 25 October 2018. EEW SPC planned to start production in December 2018. The monopiles were to be manufactured at EEW SPC’s facility in Rostock, Germany, while the transition pieces were to be produced at EEW OSB in Teesside, UK, as part of the overall delivery under the order placed with EEW SPC. The work was scheduled to support capacity utilisation at both plants during the first half of 2019. The contract related to the 752 MW Borssele 1+2 offshore wind farm located approximately 23 km off the coast of Zeeland. The announcement described the project as comprising 94 turbines and highlighted the role of the foundation components being produced by EEW SPC and its associated manufacturing footprint across Germany and the UK.
