A2SEA, described as the turbine installation experts within GeoSea, was contracted by Ørsted to provide installation vessel capacity for the Borssele 1+2 offshore wind farm in the Netherlands. Under this separate contract, A2SEA supported the offshore construction campaign by providing vessels and operational capability to transport and install the project’s wind turbines at the offshore site located around 23 km off the coast of Zeeland. The scope covered the marine logistics and offshore installation of 94 Siemens Gamesa 8 MW wind turbines (167 m rotor), including vessel-based handling and installation activities required to place the turbines at their designated positions within the wind farm. The work formed part of the wider installation programme for Borssele 1+2, alongside GeoSea’s broader responsibilities for foundations and turbines installation, and it contributed to enabling the project’s planned construction schedule during 2020. The appointment was announced on 16 October 2018 as part of Ørsted’s contracting of key offshore installation works for Borssele 1+2, selecting experienced contractors to support safe and timely execution of the build phase.
