By end-2025 the Hitachi Energy / VINCI consortium had completed civil construction of the two converter-station buildings at Cubnezais in Gironde for the Bay of Biscay HVDC interconnection, and the consortium had begun installation of the electrical equipment inside. The Cubnezais station is one of two ±400 kV HVDC converter stations bracketing the 400 km double-circuit link to Gatika in Spain. Building completion was the milestone INELFE had publicly targeted for end-2025 at the 16 May 2025 first-stone ceremony; the RTE / INELFE project page subsequently confirmed the buildings were achevés and that equipment installation had commenced, in line with the 2028 commissioning year. The next milestone on the Cubnezais side is the completion of equipment installation by mid-2027 ahead of the testing phase.
