Palfinger Marine has been contracted by Iemants Staalconstructies, the Belgian subsidiary of Smulders responsible for fabricating the offshore substation topsides, to supply fully electric DKJ500e jib cranes plus a set of PF160 platform cranes for the two offshore substations serving the Bałtyk 2 and Bałtyk 3 offshore wind farms. For Bałtyk 2 this corresponds to the crane outfitting of one offshore substation that will collect 66 kV inter-array power from the 50-turbine array and transform it for 220 kV HVAC export to shore. Each OSS will carry one DKJ500e jib crane (5 t safe working load at 28 m outreach) — the first installation of Palfinger's fully electric crane line on an offshore wind project — together with three PF160 platform cranes per substation (2 t lifting capacity at Hs 2 m, single-line operation). The cranes will be manufactured at Palfinger Marine's production location in Gdynia, Poland, supporting local content commitments for the Bałtyk 2 & 3 programme. Installation forms part of the wider OSS topside outfitting work to be carried out before energisation, ahead of the offshore substations entering service alongside first power in 2027.
