RTE International (RTEi), the international consulting arm of French TSO RTE, is engaged as Owner's Engineer to Atlantic SuperConnection. Appointed in September 2022 by ASC Energy / Global InterConnection Group, RTEi has produced the technical-feasibility validation underpinning the 1,794 MW UK–Iceland HVDC interconnector concept, covering HVDC cable system architecture, converter station configuration (VSC), grid-integration analysis at Creyke Beck and cable-route engineering inputs. RTEi's mandate as Owner's Engineer spans the late-development pre-FID phase, providing independent technical assurance to ASC and to prospective financiers; RTE itself owns and operates five subsea interconnectors (IFA, IFA-2, ElecLink, Celtic Interconnector, Savoie-Piemonte) and brings direct operator-perspective design oversight to ASC's UK and Iceland converter stations and to the ~1,708 km bipole subsea cable corridor. The role is referenced as ongoing in the developer's February 2025 NESO upgrade announcement and is positioned as a credibility anchor in ASC's pre-FID fundraising narrative alongside the LS Cable & System cable framework agreement and the NESO 1,800 MW connection upgrade.
