On 19 February 2025, ASC Energy plc signed an uprated bilateral connection agreement with National Electricity System Operator (NESO), increasing the Atlantic SuperConnection grid connection capacity at Creyke Beck (near Hull) from 1,000 MW to 1,800 MW — a 800 MW uplift on the original 2019 agreement. The uprated headroom aligns the contracted connection with the project's 1,794 MW cable rating and supports the developer's stated route to FID. National Grid is concurrently progressing the Birkhill Wood Substation, approximately 700 metres north of the existing Creyke Beck substation, to host the ASC connection alongside Dogger Bank, the Continental Link Multi-Purpose Interconnector and the North Humber to High Marnham reinforcement. Per the announcement, National Grid will submit planning permission for Birkhill Wood in February 2025, with several hundred million pounds of associated transmission investment.
