approximately 190 km offshore cable corridor between Portsmouth and Dieppe
MMT (Marin Mätteknik AB), a Swedish marine survey specialist, was contracted by AQUIND Limited to deliver the offshore marine survey campaign for the AQUIND Interconnector. The scope covered both the offshore geophysical seabed survey and the follow-on geotechnical survey along the approximately 190 km proposed cable corridor between Portsmouth, UK, and the coastal region of Dieppe, France. The geophysical campaign commenced on 20 November 2017 with vessels M/V Franklin (offshore works) and M/V Seabeam (nearshore works), equipped with multibeam echo sounders, side-scan sonars and sub-bottom profilers. MMT completed the geophysical survey and delivered the final report by 5 June 2018, confirming no major obstacles along the surveyed route. The geotechnical campaign was carried out during summer 2018 to analyse seabed soil conditions, with completion reported in Q3 2018. Survey outputs informed Environmental Impact Assessments in both the UK and France and the final cable route design submitted as part of AQUIND's UK Development Consent Order application and French environmental authorisation. AQUIND's then-Managing Director Kirill Glukhovskoy described the geophysical completion as "a major milestone in the development of AQUIND Interconnector".
