The AQUIND Interconnector was assessed as part of ENTSO-E's pan-European Ten-Year Network Development Plan (TYNDP) 2024, whose final report was published on 31 January 2025, continuing AQUIND's recognition within the EU-wide transmission planning framework first granted via TYNDP 2016 and TYNDP 2018. The accompanying System Needs study identified the UK-France border as one of two regions in Europe with the highest need for additional interconnection capacity, calling for at least 5,000 MW more capacity between the two countries by 2030. The TYNDP 2024 assessment quantified AQUIND's contribution as €362m-€413m per year of Social Economic Welfare benefits across Europe, 382-951 ktonnes per year of CO2 emissions reduction, and 4,373-5,744 GWh per year of avoided renewables curtailment. AQUIND's director Richard Glasspool stated that "all of our preparatory work is now complete" and the project is "ready to begin the construction phase as soon as we have final approval from the governing bodies."
