APOLLO-LINK confirmed an updated route configuration in its official Media Kit v1.0 published on 13 April 2026, naming the Vandellòs substation in Catalonia (near Tarragona, on the site of the decommissioned Vandellòs nuclear plant) and the Marginone substation in Tuscany, Italy, as planned connection points, with an approximate 525 kV HVDC submarine cable length of 880 km. This refines the earlier ARERA project sheet (Sept 2023) which had identified Ramis (ES) and La Spezia (IT) as primary connection points with a ~700 km route, and reflects the outcome of the Energynautics connection-point assessment that evaluated alternative onshore hubs. Per the developer's quoted study, the Vandellòs choice is favoured because the existing transmission grid is well-developed for the synchronous injection of two former nuclear units (Vandellòs I now decommissioned, Vandellòs II expected to decommission in early/mid 2030s), giving a densely meshed local grid with connections to Tarragona, Barcelona and other demand centres.
