Med-TSO's Masterplan 2025 edition, published in late 2025 alongside the 18 November 2025 launch webinar, dropped the Italy–Algeria (DZ-IT, Project #15) HVDC interconnector from its set of ten assessed interconnection projects. The 2025 plan assesses 10 projects grouped into five corridors — West Mediterranean (Spain–Morocco), Central Mediterranean & North Africa Backbone (Italy–Tunisia, Egypt–Libya), East Mediterranean (Greece–Cyprus–Israel), Eastern Balkan (Bulgaria–Türkiye–Greece, Italy–Greece, Albania–Greece) and Middle East–Mediterranean Integration (Jordan–Syria–Lebanon, Jordan–Palestine, Egypt–Jordan). The only project involving Algeria is Project 203 (Spain–Algeria), assessed as an exploratory project on a 2040 horizon — not DZ-IT. Combined with DZ-IT's continued absence from the EU PCI/PMI 2024 list, from Sonelgaz's and Terna's National Development Plans, and from any intergovernmental agreement since 2013, the Masterplan 2025 removal indicates effective de-prioritisation of the Cheffia–Cagliari concept at the regional TSO coordinator level. No formal cancellation has been announced; the project record is therefore moved to project_on_hold pending any subsequent revival signal.
