On 29 April 2026, Terna launched a public consultation pursuant to Regulation (EU) 869/2022 on the Dorsale Adriatica HVDC Foggia–Forlì interconnector, the next major Hypergrid backbone to enter formal stakeholder engagement. The consultation covers an entirely cable HVDC link of approximately 600 km — of which approximately 540 km submarine and 60 km underground — between the electrical nodes of Foggia (Apulia) and Forlì (Emilia-Romagna), together with two new conversion stations connected via HVAC links to the existing AC substations at each end. The consultation programme included two plenary online meetings — 4 May for Emilia-Romagna and 6 May for Apulia — followed by five in-person 'Terna Incontra' sessions between 12 and 21 May 2026 in the Apulian municipalities along the route, including Foggia, San Marco in Lamis, San Giovanni Rotondo and Manfredonia. Citizens, local administrations and stakeholders could submit written observations to Terna S.p.A. through 19 June 2026, after which the project will be submitted for authorisation by Italy's Ministry of Environment and Energy Security, with the formal authorisation procedure scheduled to unfold between 2027 and 2029.
